After a series of Juneteenth exploitative opportunities taken by major Corporations in attempts to misappropriate and capitalize on a holiday that should be a National Day of Atonement for US Chattel Slavery and Jim Crow Laws.
I stand corrected, thank you for pointing out that it was actually General William T. Sherman’s plan to give newly-freed families “forty acres and a mule” was among the first and most significant promises made – and broken – to African Americans.
Sherman issued the Special Field Order 15 on January 16, 1865, President Andrew Johnson overturned the order before the end of the year and returned the land to the slaveowners and traitors who had originally owned it.
